COVID-19 CHANGES

Throughout the entire closure, our team created a protocol that would alter regular operations to reduce transmission of disease. The protocol was reviewed by two specialists in the field of infectious disease and disease control. Our adaptations include (but are not limited to):

  • Reduced number of lessons at once – we only run three lessons every half hour.
  • Staggered start times to reduce and control the traffic in our centre.
  • Clear signage and instructions for guests upon entering our centre.
  • A COVID-19 specialized screening questionnaire designed for guests and team members to screen any potentially infected people. Our guests and team members are screened every day.
  • Altered pool space to facilitate physical distancing.
  • Face shields for our Aquatic Educators.
  • Outdoor check-in to reduce traffic congestion within our lobby area.
  • Lessons delivered with parents in the pool providing physical corrections while our Aquatic Educators teach.

If you would like to read the entire protocol, it is available on our website here.

At KidsCanSwim, we understand these are exceptional times. While we do not provide refunds, should any member of your family be diagnosed with COVID-19 we will credit your account with 2 weeks’ worth of missed lessons upon the provision of a medical note. This credit is valid for 90 days.

Unfortunately, we cannot hold your swim time for the duration of your quarantine. However, we will make every effort to find a swim time that works for you and your family upon your return.

On March 16th, 2020 we closed our swimming pool as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to this unexpected closure, and to be fair to our KCS families, we had provided them with extended makeup tokens for their unused swimming lessons in the last two weeks of March. Given that we are now reopening with reduced programming, we want to go the extra mile to ensure that your kids can get back in the water as quickly as possible. As such, we have amended our regular makeup policy as follows:

  • Your makeup tokens (valued at $25.00 + HST per token) can be converted into a private lesson at a rate of two tokens to one private lesson (valued at $55.00 +HST). Please note that these Make Up private lessons can only be booked on our Makeup Swim days. In order to offer flexible time during these Make Up Swim days, we will be providing 48 Makeup Swim spaces every week on alternating Wednesdays (July 8th onwards) and Fridays (July 17th onwards) from 8am to 4pm. Please log in to the customer portal to book your makeup!

OR

  • Your makeup tokens will be held until we resume our regular group lessons. Once we resume our group lessons, your make up tokens will be valid for 6 months and can be used for lessons even if you are not a monthly active swimmer with KidsCanSwim.

As a result of COVID-19, our pool space has been greatly reduced and we want to ensure we can still cater to our younger swimmers. We have installed platforms in our deeper pool to give swimmers a place to rest while learning to swim. We are also only offering private, parent-assisted lessons to ensure kids have adult support at all times during their lesson.

Parent-assisted lessons will ensure the safety of swimmers when in the larger pool.

The safety and health of our guests, parents, and employees is our number 1 priority. We are constantly working with public health authorities and government officials to ensure we are opening our pool in a safe manner. This means complying with and exceeding all regulations and recommendations made by the Government of Ontario.

While we currently must maintain physical distancing, we are also eager to return to “normal” lessons and hope to do so once our Aquatic Educators can come in physical contact with our swimmers.

As per our usual program, the On-Deck Supervisor will be monitoring swimmers’ progress in conjunction with the Aquatic Educators on a monthly basis. Progress updates will be uploaded weekly on your parent portal account.

All babies in our BabiesCanSwim program can receive an assessment upon request

Given the reduced teaching spaces and social distancing requirements, we are unable to offer a sibling discount. However, we would encourage multi-child families to look at our semi-private lesson option!

All team members must wear face shields when in the KidsCanSwim centre (both in-water and in the facility). This includes, but is not limited to, Aquatic Educators, Front Desk Coordinators, and On-Deck Supervisors.

Guests (both swimmers and guardians) must wear a face mask when in the centre except for when they are in the water. Guest will be asked to take their mask off in the water because:

  • The Aquatic Educator will be wearing a face shield and will be at a distance of 2 meters from swimmers. In accordance with physical distancing measures, other guests will be at a distance of 2 meters or greater away from each other.
  • The CDC has stated that “There is no evidence that the virus that causes COVID-19 can be spread to people through the water in pools, hot tubs, or water playgrounds.”

Guests should bring their own masks to wear upon entering our centre. KidsCanSwim has the right to refuse access to guests who do not bring a mask to their lesson.

It is not recommended for children under the age of 2 to wear a mask, according to the Centre for Disease Control.

General

Our registration is fully automated! You can register your family, add students, search for private or semi-private classes, book into classes, pay for classes, see your students progress, and much more. Visit our Parent Portal to sign in or create a customer account.

Should you have any questions about registration contact us at [email protected].

Our curriculum is focused on the achievement of 3 core skills and 3 survival skills at each level. Unlike traditional term-based lessons where each week focuses on a specific skill and missing a week can impact your child’s likelihood of success, each of our skills is re-enforced and taught at every lesson your child attends.

This allows kids to progress at their own pace and focus on the skills that they struggle with while not feeling left out if they progress at a slower pace than those around them. It’s also why we offer swimming lessons 12 months of the year, 7 days a week with no terms. It’s the fastest and most effective way for your child to learn a life skill and progress.

Included in your monthly fee is one 30-minute lesson every week of the month.

Our facilities are purposely-built to teach kids how to swim with warm water, shallow pools and family-sized change rooms.

Our instructors are all deeply passionate about teaching kids to swim and our proprietary curriculum focuses not just on learning technique but on applying those techniques to real-life situations.

Our easy, intuitive, 24/7 registration system is accessible online and puts our parents in control of their schedule providing time-saving flexibility.

Our BabiesCanSwim program is designed for babies from 3 months old to 3 years old and for their parents. A parent or guardian must be in the water with their babies at all times. Progression in this program is based on age as babies’ capabilities change so quickly.

Our KidsCanSwim program is designed for kids starting at 3 years of age and is an independent program meaning parents are not in the water with their kids. Progression in this program is based on skills achievement rather than age and allows kids to progress at their own pace.

Kids lessons from K1 to K4 take place in our smaller 0.78m deep pool with occasional activities in our 1.1m deep pool. From levels K5 to K12 kids will have their entire lesson in our larger 1.1m pool.

For more information on our curriculum or facilities please check our “Why We’re Different” pages starting with our Purpose-Built Facilities.

Since our programs are exclusively private lessons, we are holding a spot as well as scheduling an instructor just for you. Therefore, we cannot offer refunds/credits or makeup tokens for these lessons.

Each KidsCanSwim level is comprised of 3 core skills and 3 survival skills. During the first week of each month we run our assessment week where all our kids get assessed for their progress against our skills.

Assessments are done by our senior teachers who have passed an Assessor Course. Parents receive feedback on their kids’ progression both in person from our Assessors and via the online portal.

Private swimming lessons cost $220.00 (+HST) per month ($55 + HST per lesson).

Semi-private lessons cost $300.00 (+HST) per month for both kids ($37.50 +HST per child per lesson). Both children must be from the same household and we can accommodate either 2 babies or 2 kids but cannot mix babies and kids.

All our lessons are available on a monthly subscription basis.

Since our Aquatic Educators cannot come in physical contact with the swimmers, we ask that parents be there to provide physical corrections and support for their kids. Furthermore, as our younger kids will temporarily be programmed in our deeper pool, parents will need to be within arm’s reach to ensure that the swimmer is safe.

One parent/guardian (16+ years or older) must accompany each child in the pool and it must be the same parent/guardian each time.

We do not offer free trials for our private lesson programming. On your first lesson, our on-deck supervisor will be able to quickly asses your child so that our Aquatic Educators may teach the appropriate level to your swimmer.

Send us an email! We’d be more than happy to walk you through the steps.

We teach parent-child courses for babies from 3 months old to 3 years old as well as kids from 3 to 12 years old.

At KidsCanSwim we don’t believe in locking you into contracts. Our lessons are paid for on a monthly basis.

KidsCanSwim does not offer refunds/credits or makeup tokens for these lessons.

Unlike traditional swimming lessons, there are no sessions at KCS. Our swimming lessons work on a monthly subscription model and you can sign up in the middle of the month!

When you sign up mid-month, you will pay a pro-rated fee based on the number of lessons left in the month. Billing for the following month is on the first of every month (eg. June tuition is taken on  June 1st) unless it falls on a weekend or public holiday, in which case it is the following business day.

Yes, if they are 16 or older. Swimmers must have the same guardian each time they come to the pool.

Facilities, Programming and Safety

All of our swim teachers have both a Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification or equivalent and a National Lifeguard certification.

In addition to these base qualifications, all our teachers have received an additional 40 hours of KidsCanSwim training in aquatic education and working with kids.

Our aim is to make your child safe and independent in the water. We only use float aids for specific activities when teaching technique. In the event that a child falls into the water without any floatation aids we want them to be prepared and equipped with skills to make decisions to save themselves.

Our pools are purpose-built for young swimmers. The shallow pool is 0.80m deep (about 2.5 feet) and the larger pool is 1.1m deep (just under 4 feet). Kids lessons from K1 to K4 take place in our smaller 0.78m deep pool with occasional activities in our 1.1m deep pool. From levels K5 to K12 kids will have their entire lesson in our larger 1.1m pool.
